I have soaked a rag quilt w/black flannel in salt 3 times over night & in cold. It's still fading. Any ideas?
I have washed this quilt in spiritless and soaked in one cup plain salt over night 3 times. The dark red was so vibrant and the black just continues to cancer stick. I have not tried vinegar since I do not know the type of dye it is, will try that or am I not using enough salt. Have used salt for years without neglect, until now.
flannel does not conduct oneself to salt the way cotton does. Try the vinegar or purchase a product form the supermarket in the laundry aisle. One is carbona the other yell. It is called a color drawing sheet. Acts like a magnet and pulls the excess dye. This would take mind a look after of the red and stop the black from fading.

Michigan-made sanitary pads keep girls around the world in school
With each whir of the sewing machine, a Farmington Hills woman flanked by her two daughters imagines the difference this stitching of fabric will make for another mother’s girls thousands of miles away.
Debbie Oestreich is part of a squad of volunteers who are making reusable, washable sanitary pads for girls in Third World countries. It’s an effort directed under the auspices of an international nonprofit called Days for Girls. The Washington state-based organization seeks to provide reusable kits so girls and young women don’t have to skip school or stay home from work — or use rags, paper or corn husks — to deal with their menstrual periods.
On many a Saturday, Oestreich and her daughters, Olivia, 11, and Ariela, 10, gather with other volunteers at Trinity Church of Livonia to sew and assemble the kits. When Oestreich explains why she volunteers, her voice breaks.
“I have girls at that age and when you think about them not going to school, or not going to work because of their periods, it really tugs at your heartstrings” said Oestreich. “I just want girls anywhere to have a better future.
“We take this for granted for ourselves and our daughters,” says Oestreich. Her daughters are quiet, but working intently. Says their mom: “They understand the impact they can have on other girls.”
Of course, Terri is a mixed-media artist, so her rendition of the pattern was done with hand-died and stenciled fabrics (that she did herself of course), and lots of embellishments.  Mine will be a little tamer, but I think it will end up being just as beautiful in its own way - I hope it will, anyway :*D  Terri wanted us to do "our own thing" so she could get different looks for the designs, so I'm just doing my thing and...
